ABUCAY, Bataan – Some 25 ambulant vendors here on Tuesday became the first beneficiaries in Bataan this year from the Nego-Kart (Negosyso sa Kariton) project of the Department of Labor and Employment.
The vendors each received a business kiosk pulled by a bike costing from P12,000 to P15,000. The project is under a grant by DOLE with the municipality of Abucay sharing counterpart fund of P75,000.
DOLE provincial director Nellie Punzalan said poor people already in the ambulant business were given preference “to increase their income”. She expected a target earning of P300 daily for the new recipients in Bataan of the Nego-Kart program.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa Nego-Kart, DOLE at Mayor Ana Santiago,” an old woman selling fishballs said. Santiago is mayor of Abucay town.
A priest officiated in the blessings of the new Nego-Karts lined at the municipal plaza of Abucay after the project was unveiled. A brass band provided entertainment.
Later, municipal officials headed by Santiago and guests led in the tasting of the various foods that will be sold, but this time for free.
Among the delicacies were fishballs, kikiam, squid balls, hamburger, cotton candy, cornik, peanuts, cakes, mami, lumi, buko juice, gulaman and other fruit juices.
“We want the livelihood project of the vendors grow into profitable and sustainable business,” the lady mayor said.
